DISH Network Loses 19 FOX Regional Sports Channels over Rate Dispute

DISH Network rate dispute with FOX over regional sports channels

Over a rate dispute FOX Networks is abandoning DISH Network’s access to 19 FOX Regional Sports Networks and to even some other programming. FOX is emphasizing a new contract with an unusual rate increase of over 50 percent. The blockage of those channels by FOX was followed by the network’s national TV, several print as well as web advertising campaigns that are dedicated to pressurize DISH Network and its subscribers into paying the increased rate. FOX has refused DISH Network’s request to allow customers to continue watching the FOX channels while both the companies are undergoing the negotiations. However, these negotiations with FOX are not going to affect the local FOX TV stations, FOX News as well as FOX Business News.

Dave Shull, senior vice president of Programming for DISH Network has said “DISH Network is not going to allow FOX or any programmer to bully our customers into paying such an unconscionable price increase. FOX has a long history of trying to shake down pay TV providers, including Cablevision, Time Warner, and Bright House.

He also added “Our customers should not be held hostage in order to finance FOX’s irresponsible acquisition of sports rights. Consumers are already burdened enough in this challenging economy.

DISH Network will be negotiating in good faith to bag a fair deal with FOX for restoring the local sports channels and prevent that extreme rate increase in this challenging economic environment.

During the FOX imposed block, DISH Network will make some of the popular satellite TV channels available to all the affected customers at no extra charges. The channels include – HD Net Movies, NBA TV, HD Theater, NFL Network, Altitude Sports, NHL Network, New England Sports Network, Comcast SportsNet California, Comcast Sports Network Mid-Atlantic, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, Comcast Sports New England, ESPN Classic, FOX Sports Rocky Mountain, Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Big Ten Network, Mid-Atlantic Sports Network2, FOX Sports Pittsburgh, FOX Sports Northwest, Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, SportsNet New York as well as SportsTime Ohio.
