Dish TV Network- World Class Satellite TV Provider
In 1996, Dish Network began its operations as the service partner of Echostar, a satellite TV provider. Echostar was established in 1980 by the chairman and chief executive officer of the company, Charlie Ergen. The dish TV giant started off as a distributor of C band satellite TV systems. Echostar also applied for direct broadband satellite license from the then Federal Communications Commission. They were granted access to the orbital slot 119° W longitude in the year 1992.
On December 28, 1995, Echostar successfully launched its first satellite TV. In the very same year, Echostar floated the brand identity of Dish Network to market its dish satellite TV connections. By the end of the year 1998, EchoStar had bought the broadcasting assets of satellite broadcasting venture of MCI Worldcom and News Corporation’s ASkyB. With this purchase Echostar obtained 28 of the 32 transponder licenses in the 110° W orbital slot. This doubled the existing continental broadcasting capacity at a value of $682.5 million. This takeover has inspired the company to introduce a multi-satellite system called DISH 500. In the same year, Echostar partnered with Bell Canada and successfully launched the Dish Network services in Canada.
Satellite TV dishes from Dish Network:
There are various types of satellite receiving equipment from Dish Network. Most of its consumer boxes are manufactured by Sanmina-SCI Corporation to EchoStar specifications. Before the December, 2001 merger of Sanima and SCI systems, the Dish Network receivers were produced at the factories in Huntsville, Alabama, Colorado and Fountain.
Early Dish Network Antennae:
The first satellite TV antenna of Dish Network was simply called the “Dish Network”. It used one LNB to obtain signals from the 119 °W orbital location. This was commonly used as a second dish to receive high definition signals or ethnic programming from 148 ° W or 61.5 ° W orbital locations. The 119° W slot is primarily for two orbital locations and the other being 110° that provides core satellite TV services.
Dish Network channels provides value added satellite TV channels in addition to the local channels that can be received with DISH 500 and newer systems. Some of these dish TV channels exclusive to these newer systems are Boomerang, History Channel International, The Science Channel, Planet Green and Comedy Central.
